Monroe

Founded in 1819, Monroe is one of the oldest and most influential cities in northern Louisiana. Located on the banks of the Ouachita River, Monroe’s history is steeped in trade, transportation, and aviation innovation. It was renamed after the steamboat James Monroe docked there, marking a new chapter in river commerce for the region.
